This was the post my youngest brother put on Facebook about his sermon today. \u00a0Of course he got lots of comments because he is that kind of charismatic extrovert and demands attention.<\/p>\n

I thought I’d add my input on this subject because we have this ongoing battle at home. \u00a0And.. it is exhausting! \u00a0While I didn’t hear my brother, Kumar’s, sermon, he said it was on Joseph and his brothers and how this actually stemmed from their father, Esau and Jacob.<\/p>\n

What is sibling rivalry? The dictionary says it’s competition between siblings especially for the attention, affection and approval of their parents.<\/p>\n

Over the last year this is an ongoing battle at home. \u00a0 I always thought my older two, being 12 months apart, would be super close and best of buds. \u00a0Here’s the thing about motherhood, or perhaps parenthood in generally\u2026 there’s so much I didn’t know or even fathom as a young mom with obviously very unrealistic ideals. \u00a0Why didn’t anyone tell me???<\/p>\n

My older two think we give the other more freedom or the car more often or \u2026 only God can keep track of all the things they think<\/em> are unfair. \u00a0They don’t see the lectures or scoldings or reprimands the other gets because often its done in private<\/em>!!! \u00a0And\u2026 hello, if there is one that gets more privilege, it’s because it’s earned or hasn’t the trust hasn’t been breached.<\/p>\n

Do they love each other? \u00a0I’m going to take a guess and say YES! \u00a0But \u2026 it’s not based on daily actions!!!! My brother Rajiv and I are two years apart. \u00a0We had many a fight growing up. \u00a0It could get ugly!!! \u00a0I can’t remember the little things we fought about but I do remember that there was that line\u2026 I could do whatever to my brother. \u00a0He was mine. \u00a0But YOU\u2026 kid over there\u2026 don’t mess with my brothers. \u00a0My brothers and \u00a0I are close. \u00a0Sanj and the boys are always fascinated with the daily interactions I have with them. \u00a0“What do you talk about?”<\/em> \u00a0the boys ask. \u00a0I really couldn’t tell you but we just make contact most days, whether texting or actually talking.<\/p>\n

My boys can fight. \u00a0They can be physical for fun or out of anger. \u00a0They can say the most ugly thing \u00a0that they know will hit below the belt! Ouch. \u00a0And yet\u2026 time after time when someone outside the family messes with one of the six\u2026 They are ready to do battle!!<\/p>\n

Sigh.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 there is always the joke of who is loved by my mom most. \u00a0We all know who it is\u2026 the three of us. \u00a0She will deny it. \u00a0She’s suppose to deny it. \u00a0My kids don’t fight over who we love most\u2026 it isn’t love they are fighting over it’s privileges. \u00a0What i wish they’d understand is that when trust is broken, privileges go with that.<\/p>\n

I am sure that someday, the boys will all be friends, of some sort. \u00a0Hope I’m alive to see that. \u00a0Hope I’m alive to see them parent teenagers. \u00a0That is the ultimate payback. \u00a0lol<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
